จักรยานยนต์ หรือ มอเตอร์ไซค์ (อังกฤษ: motorcycle หรือ motorbike) คือยานพาหนะสองล้อที่ใช้เครื่องยนต์หรือมอเตอร์ในการขับเคลื่อน ประเภทของจักรยานยนต์ขึ้นอยู่กับลักษณะการออกแบบใช้งาน เช่น ระยะทาง สภาพจราจร การท่องเที่ยว กีฬา และ การแข่งขัน เป็นต้น

จักรยานยนต์คันแรกของโลกถูกออกแบบและสร้างโดยนักประดิษฐ์ชาวเยอรมันที่ชื่อ กอตต์ลีบ ไดม์เลอร์ (Gottlieb Daimler) จดสิทธิบัตรเมื่อวันที่ 29 สิงหาคม ปี พ.ศ. 2428 (ค.ศ. 1885) ซึ่งต่อมาได้รับการพัฒนาให้เป็นรถสำหรับใช้ในสงครามโลกครั้งที่หนึ่ง อย่างไรก็ตาม ถ้าจะนับยานพาหนะสองล้อที่ขับเคลื่อนด้วยพลังไอน้ำว่าจักรยานยนต์แล้ว ได้เกิดขึ้นที่สหรัฐอเมริกาในปี พ.ศ. 2410(1867) โดย Sylvester Howard Roper จาก Massachusetts^[1]

ในปี พ.ศ. 2437 (ค.ศ. 1894) Hildebrand & Wolfmüller ออกจำหน่ายจักรยานยนต์เพื่อการค้าเป็นครั้งแรก โดยปรับปรุงการเผาไหม้ภายในเครื่องยนต์ให้ดีขึ้น จนกระทั่งสงครามโลกครั้งที่หนึ่ง ผู้ผลิตจักรยานยนต์มากที่สุดเห็นจะเป็น อินเดียน ผลิตจักรยานยนต์จำนวนสองหมื่นคันต่อปี โดยในปี 1920 ฮาร์ลีย์-เดวิดสัน ผลิตจักรยานยนต์เพื่อขายมากกว่า 67 ประเทศ จนกระทั่งปี พ.ศ. 2471 (ค.ศ. 1928) DKW ได้กุมตลาดใหญ่ไว้

หลังสงครามโลกครั้งที่สอง BSA Group เป็นผู้ผลิตใหญ่ ผลิตจักรยานยนต์ 75,000 คันต่อปีในทศวรรษที่ 50 และบริษัทจากเยอรมนีMotorenwerke AG เป็นผู้ผลิตมากที่สุดตั้งแต่ปี พ.ศ. 2498 (ค.ศ. 1955) ถึง ทศวรรษที่ 70

ปัจจุบัน บริษัทจากญี่ปุ่น อย่าง ฮอนด้า คาวาซากิ ซูซูกิ และยามาฮ่า ได้มีอิทธิพลต่อวงการจักรยานยนต์ ในขณะที่ในอเมริกา ฮาร์ลีย์-เดวิดสัน ก็ยังคงรักษาระดับความนิยมไว้ได้ ทางฝั่งยุโรปก็มี ดูคาติ-จากอิตาลี บีเอ็มดับเบิลยู-จากเยอรมัน และ ไทรอัมพ์-จากอังกฤษ ซึ่งในส่วนของบริษัทไทยนั่นก็มี เช่น ไทเกอร์ มอเตอร์, บิ๊กบูล และ สตาเลียน

นอกจากนั้นยังมีกลุ่มผู้ชื่นชม รถประเภทสกูตเตอร์ ในกลุ่มเล็กๆ ที่ได้รับความนิยมไปทั่วโลกเช่นกัน
