เพนกวิน (อังกฤษ: Penguin) เป็นนกที่อยู่ในวงศ์ Spheniscidae อันดับ Sphenisciformes[2]

ลักษณะและพฤติกรรม[แก้]

เพนกวินมีถิ่นอาศัยอยู่บริเวณซีกโลกทางใต้หรือขั้วโลกใต้ เป็นนกที่บินไม่ได้ มีลักษณะเด่นคือ มีขนสีดำที่ด้านหลัง และขนสีขาวที่ด้านหน้าท้อง ซึ่งช่วยป้องกันเพนกวินจากสัตว์นักล่าต่าง ๆ เวลาว่ายน้ำ ปีกของเพนกวินมีลักษณะคล้ายครีบปลา ช่วยในการว่ายน้ำ แต่ไม่สามารถใช้ปีกในการบินเหมือนนกทั่วไป เพนกวินไม่สามารถหายใจในน้ำได้แต่สามารถกลั้นหายใจได้นานมากในน้ำ ร้อยละ 75 ของชีวิตเพนกวินจะอาศัยในน้ำ เพนกวินสามารถว่ายน้ำได้เร็วเฉลี่ยประมาณ 22- 24 กิโลเมตร/ชั่วโมง และสามารถดำน้ำได้ลึกถึง 250 เมตร ตีนของเพนกวินเป็นพังผืดเหมือนตีนเป็ด ใช้ได้ดีเวลาว่ายน้ำหรือดำน้ำ แต่เมื่อเดินบนบกแล้ว เพนกวินจะเดินตัวตรง[3] แต่จะทำให้เดินอย่างช้า ๆ ซึ่งเพนกวินมีวิธีการเคลื่อนที่บนบกที่เร็วกว่าและใช้ได้ผลดีกว่าการเดิน นั่นคือ การไถลตัวไปตามทางลาดชันหรือพื้นที่ลื่นเป็นน้ำแข็ง [4]

วิวัฒนาการ[แก้]

การจำแนก[แก้]

แบ่งออกได้เป็น 6 สกุล ได้แก่

ความสัมพันธ์กับมนุษย์[แก้]

เพนกวินเป็นนกที่มีความสัมพันธ์กับมนุษย์ในด้านต่าง ๆ มากมาย ในอดีตเป็นนกที่มนุษย์ล่าเพื่อเอาเนื้อมาบริโภค[6] แต่ในปัจจุบันเป็นสัตว์ที่เลี้ยงไว้แสดงตามสวนสัตว์หรือสถานแสดงพันธุ์สัตว์น้ำต่าง ๆ ทั่วโลก (โดยมากจะเป็นเพนกวินฮัมโบลด์) โดยสถานที่เลี้ยงเพนกวินที่มีจำนวนมากที่สุด คือ โตเกียวซีไลฟ์ปาร์ค ในกรุงโตเกียว ประเทศญี่ปุ่น[12]
