แมงกะพรุนไฟ (อังกฤษ: Sea nettle[1]) เป็นสัตว์น้ำไม่มีกระดูกจำพวกแมงกะพรุนสกุลหนึ่ง ใช้ชื่อสกุลว่า Chrysaora (/ไคร-เซ-ออ-รา/) จัดอยู่ในชั้นแมงกะพรุนแท้ หรือไซโฟซัว

โดยแมงกะพรุนไฟ มีลักษณะทั่วไปคล้ายร่ม แต่มีสีลำตัวและหนวดเป็นสีแดงสดหรือสีส้ม ด้านบนมีจุดสีขาวอยู่ทั่วไป สังเกตได้ง่าย ปากและหนวดยื่นออกมาทางด้านล่างหรือด้านท้อง เส้นหนวดมีจำนวนมากเป็นสายยาวกว่าลำตัว พบในทะเลทั้งบริเวณชายฝั่งและไกลฝั่ง ในช่วงฤดูมรสุมอาจพบได้ในเขตน้ำกร่อย จัดเป็นแมงกะพรุนที่มีพิษร้ายแรงมากอีกจำพวกหนึ่ง เมื่อโดนต่อยจากเข็มพิษแล้วจะมีอาการเจ็บปวดที่บริเวณบาดแผล จะมีอาการเจ็บ ปวดบริเวณบาดแผลอย่างรุนแรงภายในระยะเวลา 2-3 นาที บางครั้งอาจพบหนวดแมงกะพรุนขาดติดอยู่บนผิวสัมผัส ผิวหนังมีแนวผื่นแดง หรือรอยไหม้ ตามรอยหนวด ปวดแสบปวดร้อน บวมแดงจากการอักเสบและอาจเป็นหนองจากการติดเชื้อสำทับ อาการบวมแดงอาจหายไปได้ในเวลาไม่ช้า แต่รอยไหม้และรอยแผลเป็นที่เกิดขึ้นจะต้องใช้เวลารักษานานหลายปี หรืออยู่ถาวรตลอดไป นอกจากนี้อาจมีอาการไอ, น้ำมูกและน้ำตาไหล และอาการข้างเคียงอื่น ๆ เช่น เหงื่อออกมาก กล้ามเนื้อเป็นตะคริว, อ่อนเพลีย และหมดสติ จากการฉีดพิษที่สกัดจากแมงกะพรุนไฟเข้าไปในสัตว์ทดลองพบว่าทำให้การทำงานของตับและไตผิดปรกติ จนอาจเป็นอันตรายถึงตายได้ แต่ยังไม่มีรายงานว่าเป็นอันตรายถึงแก่ชีวิตมนุษย์[2]
โดยที่ชื่อวิทยาศาสตร์ของแมงกะพรุนไฟนั้น คือ Chrysaora มีที่มาจากเทพปกรณัมกรีกคือ ไครเซออร์ซึ่งเป็นโอรสของโปเซดอน เทพเจ้าแห่งท้องทะเลกับเมดูซ่า เป็นอนุชาของเพกาซัส โดยที่ชื่อนี้มีความหมายว่า "บุรุษผู้ถืออาุวุธทองคำ"[3]
